The Mighty Boosh: The Complete Season 1 A spoof of the British style of news broadcasting - including ridiculous stories, patronising vox pops, offensively hard-hitting research and a sports presenter clearly struggling for metaphors. It's equal parts hilarious and disturbing. But it's not, alas, and so it mostly falls rather flat. So why are objects flying about of their own accord, assaulting innocent civilians and disrupting hospital procedure? A wonderfully well observed spoof on both the 1980's Horror-Genre and 1980's TV shows. After publishing a rant about 'idiots' - frantically hip, ignorant scenesters - Dan Ashcroft finds these same people embracing him as his idol and his nerves constantly tested by his biggest fan, moronic scene personality Nathan Barley. At least that's what Marenghi and his publicist/co-star, Dean Learner, claim in modern-day interviews which both bookend and interrupt the episodes. I've always loved reading Garth Marenghi's novels, and When I found out he's made a TV series, I was so excited. Fabulous show from a team of comic geniuses. The Commentary is in character and exactly like what you would see from a TV Documentary of 'celebs' talking about something (Britains top 10 Elton John song's), some of the cast hold the show in high regard, critiquing it for what they would have done in retrospect, it's very well acted don't get me wrong but it's not funny. You're expecting whacky horror hijinks in the 80's but then it's just a show being talked about and fondly remembered and it's meh'.

It's a good enough copy but there are no extras and the show was six episodes long so a few real interviews and some out-takes would have been a nice addition. Sadly the series itself doesn't quite match up to the best bits online. This may be the only area of my life in which I can claim to be in the 1%, so I'm going for it!
