The white horizontal layer in the picture is smoke from a 700 acre forest fire on top of the distant Jemez mountains. 2. We arrived around 8 on a Wednesday and it wasn't busy at all. Beautiful trail! There is a steady elevation gain almost the entire way up, around 1300 ft. Probably moderate rated trail as far as difficulty but it's only about 2 miles up but that means 2 miles back down! Ignore the little out and back about halfway down as I was exploring a side trail and it was still recording 3. The South Piedra Lisa Trail in the Cibola National Forest has 4.5 stars. You are so blessed to live and have such opportunities and be in good shape to take advantage of them.
Views from the beginning, all the way through to the end. Challenging and awesome. Do this two and one half hour hike. Hard not to repeat what has already been said. Four of us did the Piedra Lisa 137 trail. But when the direct sun hits you it’s like instantly wearing a thick winter coat, hat, gloves, socks and scarf.Virtually, every step through the first half of this hike is UP with about a 1578 foot total elevation change. When we hiked, the view of the snow on the mountains against the deep blue sky was spectacular. It is rated moderate, dog-friendly and reaches 1,309 feet into the Sandia Mountains. They could learn from you!!!! Probably moderate rated trail as far as difficulty but it's only about 2 miles up but that means 2 miles back down! I drank a full 1.5 liter. This trail in the northwest portion of the Sandias takes you to places with excellent views of the Sandias and the Jemez. Thanks for sharing. The trail itself is excellent!Beautiful trail! Watch for turkey! Started the hike at Road 445/Piedra Lisa trailhead. (Saw the USFS law enforcement truck driving up as we were coming down so I'm sure some folks got ticketed.) Watch for turkey! Most ratings say about 1300 ft gain in elevation but my phone said This hiking trail is a steep grade. Had to resort to four touch points a few times on the Del Agua decent but they were easy with minor exposure. This short two mile climb to the ridge that divides the view of Albuquerque and Placitas tops out at a rocky outcrop that provides simply stellar views of the city and to the other side Placitas and onward towards Northern New Mexico. Post was not sent - check your email addresses! The trails are smooth so the way down is nice and easy on the knees lol. You need to be in at least reasonable shape to hike this trail. Higher elevations are densely packed with Gamble oak and littered with tall Ponderosa pine and Piñon.Grand views of the Rio Grande Valley are abundant. Make sure you always have a cell phone connection because you do not want to gel lost or fall out there by yourself. It offers plentiful shade opportunities and comfortable temperatures at that time.

Enjoyed the 2 mile hike up. The ascent seemed reasonable as did the descent. The Piedra Lisa trail out and back to the Roncon ridge trails is 4.2 miles but I Hiked Rincon Ridge Trail for a while for additional .3 miles. We found it to be a really nice trail with nice views. We are just getting back into hiking and this hike was challenging! It has great views. Do this two and one half hour hike.
