I like the silver arrows all over the way, but was disappointed for not finding anything to celebrate the end of it at Dorking station.Beautiful easy to follow trail, gentle on the foot. Keep straight on along the pavement, heading into the town centre and passing the war memorial on the left. Whilst there are silver arrows helping you along the way, they can be easily missed and are few & far between. Through the fence to the right are the grounds of Thorncroft Manor.
A couple of short, steeper climbs but otherwise fairly flat. It was really fun to find the silver arrows.
Follow the path which leads you past the old Thorncroft Vineyard on the right to reach a wooden kissing gate. Passing through the vineyard closer to Dorking station was particularly stunning, especially on a sunny day.A pleasant and relatively easy walk. Cross the footbridge over the River Mole which runs directly alongside the railway bridge on the left. Go straight ahead on the path which leads you downhill through the woods. see my recording info.Turn off your ad blocker to see a map of this trailCockshot Cottage via Whitehill to Mickleham VillageSurrey Three Peaks - Boxhill, Holmbury Hill, Leith Hill For a limited time only, save 30% on a year of AllTrails Pro! At the end of the first section of vines, you will come to a signed crossroads with the estate concrete drive. Otherwise, you'll repeat the same path. The walk begins by Leatherhead railway station and heads south along the River Mole towards Dorking.
If you wish to visit the vineyard visitor centre and restaurant/cafe turn left. Instead keep ahead a little further and take the second path on the left, passing through a wooden kissing gate alongside a wide wooden gate. Instead, continue for a further 50m to reach a crossroads of paths.
The return journey can be completed with a single 5 minute train ride. Cross Pippbrook to join Mill Lane and keep ahead to reach the High Street, opposite The White Horse Hotel. Pass The Running Horse pub on the right and, immediately after the mini-roundabout, swap to the left-hand pavement to cross the elegant eighteenth century arched Town Bridge.Immediately after the bridge, turn left onto the surfaced footpath signed to Norbury Park. NOTE: the field may be holding cattle, although when we crossed they were held behind an electric fence.
Follow the path across the centre of the field with the River Mole across to the left and the railway embankment across to the right. At the end of the road, swing right to join the pavement which runs beside the dual carriageway. Good with a dog. You will come to a fork, keep left (signed for the Town Centre). The terrain is varied and includes walking through towns, countryside paths, through lovely vineyards and across private fields. Overall, great family hike. Muddy in Jan of course but still beautiful.Great trail. I have saved a alternative route via the Druids Grove and Boxhil, which is great if you have a dog, but it is more demanding than the normal route. The River Mole has slowly but surely eroded away at the chalk hills to the north of Dorking to provide one of the most attractive walking opportunities in the area – and for this one you do not even need the car to get to the start. You will need to negotiate several kissing gates and some steps but there are no stiles on route. The Mole Gap Trail offers the opportunity to visit two historic market towns and the outstanding countryside of the Mole Gap, including England's largest vineyard.
