The Life and Extraordinary Adventures of Private Ivan Chonkin is a very funny book as well as an impressive satirical depiction of the pre-WW2 USSR. In the meanwhile, Milyaga must deal with an old man in the village named Stalin, who is suspected of being the real Stalin or being related to him. All in all this is a very good story and it is easy to see how the author was exiled and not invited back as the Soviet Union folded. One blunder leads to another, and the movie culminates in two divisions of soldiers squared off with one another, and Chonkin and his girl friend come out of the fray as heroes.
